Capoeira (cap-o-wear-a)









Capoeira is a martial art from the north of Brazil. The "capoeiristas" (capoeira players) stand in a circle (called a "roda") which has a band of musicians at one side. They come to the middle of the circle to "play". They don't hit one another as the idea is to dodge the kicks coming from the other person.

Most capoeiristas are very strong as this sport involves "au" (cartwheels) and backflips.

While the two capoeiristas are playing in the middle of the circle, the other people sing and clap along with the band. The band sing traditional capoeira songs.
